On March 7, 2023, ISUZU Motors Limited announced its goals for the year to accelerate the future of transportation and launched the 7th generation of the ISUZU N-Series (Elf) and Forward series trucks. ISUZU also introduced the new Elf EV, its first mass-produced pure electric vehicle. The Elf EV van truck will be available in traditional cab models with a total weight of fewer than 3.5 tons and wide cab models with a total weight of up to 7.5 tons, but the van truck‘s power parameters have not been disclosed.

Clues have been discovered on the official website of ZF Friedrichshafen AG regarding their latest electric central drive system, the ZF CeTrax lite. The system has already begun mass production in Friedrichshafen, Germany, and is designed for use in light commercial vehicles and urban traffic worldwide. Japanese cooperator ISUZU is among the first customers to install the system in their new ELF EV model.

The CeTrax lite electric central drive system is expected to become the power source for the new 7.5-tonne ELF EV model. It boasts a peak performance output of 150 kW and 1500 Nm of torque and is highly integrated, featuring an electric motor, a reduction mechanism, and an electronic control system. This compact design reduces the system’s space occupation and allows for more installation options for battery modules and other components.

Furthermore, the CeTrax lite central drive system is lightweight, weighing only around 120 kilograms, which is even lower than the weight of a diesel engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters. This, along with its enhanced chassis installation flexibility, makes it an ideal option for this van truck.

The Elf EV product lineup includes standard, high, and wide cabins, powered by an external power supply with two charging modes: Scheduled charging and fast charging. The van truck is also equipped with a high-voltage battery temperature continuous monitoring system, with automatic temperature control in cold regions to ensure optimal battery performance.
